Morrissey 一直以來在各種場合，不時都會有反英國君主政體的發言，作為一個對英國皇室大加反對的人，這首歌的歌詞也多被解讀為對王權的反彈。
但相對於一般認爲以諷喻女王為主的歌詞，其實其中也有很多是對於現實，以及在社會中無為庸俗之輩的不滿。一如查明史料這部分可以追朔至英國民間的無聊消遣，譬如身稱自己是某某貴族的幾等親，或某某古代君王的幾代傳人之類的；當然這在現在、在其他國家也是會發生的，譬如聲稱自己是七七事變打響盧溝橋第一槍的某某士兵的某某子孫（之所以有這個奇怪的例子，是因為我遇過而且應該是真的）。而像是酒吧、教會的意象，也可說是英國平民一般日常生活的寫照，酒吧、教會、王室都是些無聊的東西，並且組成了英國人庸俗的生活。另外，戀母情結這部分，除了表達對於查爾斯王儲的一種不屑外，或許也隱喻著整個英國社會把女王當作一個共同母親這樣的情感，而想必作者是不以為然的。
